Cairn gets permission to extend Rajasthan block

Cairn Energy has received Indian government approval to extend the northern boundary of its RJ-ON-90/1 block in Rajasthan by 850-sq km.

On 13th July Cairn told the London Stock Exchange that, the extension is effective for the remaining exploration period of the block. Said Cairn CEO Bill Gammell: Cairn plans an extensive seismic and drilling campaign to appraise the extension area north of the existing N-C discovery and looks forward to working with the Rajasthan State Authorities in progressing a fast-track programme.

In another three years Cairn Energy will begin producing crude oil from RJ-ON-90/1. On 8th July it announced that a development plan is under preparation for the Mangala field.

An update on Mangala pre-development oil in place volumes and reserve estimates will be provided at the time of the interim results announcement, which is scheduled for 7th September 2004.
