Vol 20, PW 26 (21 Sep 17) News in Brief

Wasting no time, HPCL has begun hiring for its proposed Rs43,129cr ($6.5bn) Barmer refinery in Rajasthan.

Soon after receiving approval to get environment clearance from the environment ministry on August 29, HPCL kicked off the process to fill 170 vacancies for mechanical and instrument technicians and production operators for the planned 9m t/y refinery which will come up at Pachpadra village. Mumbai-based engineering consultancy and manpower outsourcing firm Aarvi Encon is handling the recruitment on HPCL's behalf.

Aarvi held walk-in interviews in Chennai on September 3 followed by another round on September 10 at Ahmedabad. Only candidates with 3-5 years oil and gas, chemicals, petrochemicals and refinery experience are eligible.

In the long-term HPCL plans to recruit 1100 people on its payroll and 200 on contracts. Environmental clearance for the refinery is expected this month (September).

HPCL has also applied for permission to construct the boundary wall, site office and power facilities and to lay the pipeline network.
