Drilling begins at GSPCآ’s offshore KG-OSN-2001/3 block

Vol 8, PW 10 (11 Aug 04) News in Brief

Gujarat Petroleum has at last spudded its first well at NELP-III block KG-OSN-2001/3.

The first casing has already been lowered, a source tells us. By 10th August, Saipem drillship Perro Negro 3 had drilled up to 400 metres in water depths of 74 metres.

Well KG-1 will be drilled to 3, 400 metres target depth. We may drill deeper than TD later, he adds.

GSPC has identified 10 to 12 possible well locations for its four well drilling programme. The Saipem contract runs for 200 days but GSPC can extend it for six additional wells across the 1,298-sq km block.

GSPC is operator of KG-OSN-2001/3 with an 80% stake. GeoGlobal Resources and Jubilant Enpro each hold 10%.

On 3rd August, GeoGlobal said the KG-1 well spud on 31st July - is on a structural closure defined by 3D seismic data previously acquired. Well operations will take approximately 70 days to drill, log, case, test and evaluate all pay zones.
