Gujarat energy boss Gulati to move out

Vol 20, PW 13 (23 Mar 17) News in Brief

Gujarat's energy and petrochemicals department has an overwhelming influence on the state's energy sector with high flying and former GSPC chief DJ Pandian earlier in control.

Today, the energy department is led by unassuming Sujit Gulati, 57, but speculation is rife Gulati might be shifted out to the bigger and more important industries and mines department. Gulati already holds the additional charge of industries and mines after colleague and senior IAS officer PK Taneja retired on February 28.

But chief minister Vijay Rupani, we are told, wants Gulati in the industries department full time. Likely candidates to replace him at the energy and petrochemicals department include commercial tax commissioner PD Vaghela, health commissioner JP Gupta, tourism secretary SJ Haider, secretary to the chief minister S.

Aparna and secretary food and civil supplies Manoj Das who has also worked as GSPC joint managing director. Gulati, an additional chief secretary, has not yet completed one year in the energy department job which he took over on June 23, 2016.
