Two-well focus for OVL in Colombia

Vol 20, PW 4 (03 Nov 16) News in Brief

ONGC Videsh is in overdrive as it prepares to drill two wells at its CPO-5 exploration licence in Colombia.

"I am confident we can begin drilling by November as planned," Vikas Sarma, OVL country manager tells this report from Bogota. Between October 5 and 31, OVL released eight invitations to bid for services ranging from a 2000-hp drilling rig to wellheads, casing pipes and tubing, wireline and mud-logging and drill bits for back-to-back drilling of the Mariposa-1 and Sol-1 wells at this 1992-sq km block in the Llanos basin.

By 3pm local time on November 10, expect OVL to have selected a minimum 2000-hp rig after the bid submission deadline closed an hour earlier the same day. "Rig mobilisation will be completed within 15 days of LoA," says OVL.

"The contract period will be for construction and testing of two wells or approximately 150 days from the date of mobilisation or until completion of both wells." In 2013, OVL tasted success at CPO-5, one of seven blocks held in Colombia, with the Kamal-1 well. Since then OVL (70%) and Canadian partner Petrodorado Energy (30%) have drilled discovery wells Loto-1 and Loto-2.
