Reliance-BP Cambay exploration wells

Vol 19, PW 7 (03 Dec 15) News in Brief

After five years of little or no activity, Reliance and partner BP are gearing up to begin drilling four Phase-II committed exploration wells at their NELP-V onshore Cambay basin block CB-ONN-2003/1 by March 31, 2016.

Reliance might also revive plans to drill 80 development and 20 water injection wells at this block under a Rs1100cr ($175m) campaign which will require four rigs, and which should yield 8000 b/d of oil for 10 years that will be sold to IndianOil's Koyali refinery. Reliance, we hear, is preparing a Field Development Plan for the DGH, which has already approved Declarations of Commerciality for eight oil discoveries: D-43, D-45, D-46, D-47, D-48, D-49, D-50, D-51 reported between November 2009 and August 2010.

Under the four-year Phase-I, which ended in 2010, Reliance committed nine wells but actually drilled 18. Of these, two were not approved by the DGH.

Subsequent work at the block was held up by “regulatory issues” which were resolved in January 2015, says a source.
