Pradhan might transfer UP Singh to Orissa

Vol 19, PW 5 (05 Nov 15) News in Brief

Talk at the oil ministry is that likeable additional secretary Upendra Prasad Singh might soon be sent back to Orissa to help run oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan’s campaign for chief minister in 2019.

Singh, 53, completes his five-year Delhi stint on April 26, 2016. But if you believe the grapevine he might be sent back before completing his five years.

“Pradhan’s ambition to become Orissa chief minister is no secret,” says a ministry source. “Singh is Pradhan’s confidante.

He is a very bright officer.” He adds that Pradhan has already enlisted state-owned companies to carry out social work in his home state to boost his chances of an election win.

Singh, who holds the additional charge of Oil India chairman, joined the ministry in September 2014 as joint secretary exploration before being promoted to additional secretary (exploration) on July 29. Born on October 10, 1962, he joined the IAS in 1985.

Singh was unavailable for comment as he is on an official tour to the US.
