Man Industries denies double-talk in pipeline choice

Vol 8, PW 15 (20 Oct 04) News in Brief

Pipe manufacturer Man Industries denies charges that it is speaking in different voices while doing business in India and abroad.

In India Man is championing the cause of expensive LSAW pipes for the controversial Dahej to Uran gas pipeline proposed by GAIL. But in Bangladesh Man is promoting the cheaper HSAW pipes for a 52-km high-pressure gas pipeline from Ashuganj to Monohordi.

We have plants to manufacture both types of line pipes, Man tells this report. We bid for HSAW pipes in Bangladesh because price was a major issue there.

Man was bidding in a global tender issued by Gas Transmission Company of Petrobangla for the supply of 30-inch grade X60 coated line pipes for delivery in November. Four Indian pipe manufacturers submitted bids.

PSL and Man quoted for HSAW pipes but Welspun and Saw Pipes quoted for LSAW pipes. PSL won the $9.29m contract.
