GSPC abandons well at KG-OSN-2001/3

Gujarat Petroleum has abandoned its KG-1 well at KG-OSN-2001/3 offshore Krishna Godavari.

Blaming intense complications while drilling, GSPCs 5% partner in the block GeoGlobal Resources said in a statement on 11th November that deteriorating hole conditions provoked by a number of drilling difficulties meant target depth of 3300 metres was not reached. The well was drilled up to a depth of 2630 metres over a period of 90 days.

GSPC elected to run casing to 2220 metres to overcome adverse drilling conditions, but with limited success, said the release. Inability in this 400-metre open hole to isolate water within this highly fractured reservoir resulted in preferential coning of water with 84% methane and 16% light gases and condensate, GeoGlobal said adding that this resulted in an unsuccessful production test.

This section was abandoned until further delineation wells can be programmed on the KG-1 structure.
