Karnataka postpones EPC pre-bid for Bidadi

Vol 8, PW 16 (03 Nov 04) News in Brief

Karnataka Power Corporation has postponed to 29th November the pre-bid conference date for Bidadi EPC contractors.

The original pre-bid meeting was to be held on 30th October. We want to first finalise the gas supply contract before moving ahead on the EPC contract, says KPCL.

Of the 180 or so unresolved issues that were initially there (with gas bidders) we are now down to just three or four. Despite this KPC is nowhere nearer finalising a new deadline for price bids from potential bidders for the supply of 1.6m t/y gas or LNG for 17 years from 2007-08 for the proposed 1400-MW Bidadi power station.

Of the three bidders, Petronet-LNG wants a six-month postponement; Indian Oil and Petronas want a three-month postponement while Reliance has not asked for any extension. A global shortage of LNG is the main reason why Petronet-LNG and IOC-Petronas want a postponement of the price bid deadline.
