Gujarat Petronet receives gas pipeline bids

Gujarat State Petronet (GSPL) received bids last month (May) for separate contracts to lay the first tranches of three cross country gas pipelines, together worth around Rs5000cr ($833m).

For the first 455-km leg of the 1670-km pipeline from Mehsana in Gujarat to Bhatinda in Punjab, GSPL received bids by May 19 from Essar Projects, Punj Lloyd, KazStroyService, Kalpataru and Larsen & Toubro. The same companies plus China Petroleum Pipeline Bureau - a division of Chinese major CNPC - bid for the remaining two tenders.

For the first 310-km of the 740-km pipeline from Bhatinda in Punjab to Jammu in Kashmir GSPL received bids by May 22 and for the first 747-km of the 1585-km pipeline from Mallavaram in Andhra Pradesh to Bhilwara in Rajasthan it received bids by May 26. Turkey’s Fernas also submitted a bid for a smaller 320-km section of the Mallavaram to Bhilwara pipeline.

GSPL is expected to award contracts by August.
