Vol 8, PW 23 (23 Feb 05) News in Brief

British Gas and GAIL joint venture Mahanagar Gas will commission its 100th CNG station early next month in Mumbai.

At the same time the Mumbai-based city gas distribution company will also spread its CNG and piped natural gas network into the neighbouring city of Thane and satellite towns of Mira Road and Bhayender. The eastern expressway highway in Thane is a great opportunity for us, a MGL director tells us.

Our CNG stations will come up at Hindustan Petroleums petrol pumps on this road (National Highway-3) and later on Ghodbunder Road in Thane. MGL has planned investments of Rs360cr ($81m) for its expansion plans, which start next month.

After Thane will come Kalyan Dombivili and Navi Mumbai. Mahanagar Gas is targeting 150 factories, 6000 shops and restaurants and 650, 000 households in these areas.

Mahanagar Gas will supply about 1.5m cm/d to Thane and other areas by 2007.
