Shiv Vani wins onland 2D contracts from Oil India

Vol 8, PW 24 (09 Mar 05) News in Brief

Indian service contractor Shiv Vani has won two 2D seismic contracts from Oil India totalling Rs40cr ($8.8m) for work in Arunachal Pradesh.

Under the contracts Shiv Vani has to shoot 700-line km in the states Passighat area, which is under thick forest cover and is also troubled by separatist insurgency. Data acquisition began last month and has to be completed in one season, says a Shiv Vani source.

Separately, on 2nd March, Shiv Vani completed shooting the first phase of a 350-line km 2D seismic survey for Oil India in the thickly forested Manubhum region of Arunachal Pradesh on the border with Assam. We understand that the data reveals the existence of some good structures.

Adds our source: The quality of the data is excellent. Oil India is planning to release the location for one exploration well in a four-well exploration programme based on the results of the 2D.

Expect a tender shortly for an onland-drilling rig.
