ONGC is poised to begin drilling two wells at Gujarat offshore block GK-OSN-2009/2 from December 2013 and has begun lining up a jack-up and allied services.

ONGC tells us the two locations at the 1242-sq km NELP-VIII block were identified in September. "Both are in water depths of 30 metres to 35 metres," he says.

"Each well will be drilled to around 4000 metres TD." He adds ONGC’s Mumbai-based western offshore basin team will decide which jack-up to use to drill the wells.

ONGC has more than 25 rigs on hire from various drillers. Contacted by PETROWATCH, a senior source at the western offshore basin team said it has yet to identify a rig.

ONGC has also committed to shoot 1100-lkm 2D and 1242-sq km 3D. ONGC (40%) shares GK-OSN-2009/2 with Adani Welspun (30%) and IOC (30%).
