Omkar seismic plans in Gujarat

Vol 17, PW 6 (17 Oct 13) News in Brief

Oil and gas newcomer Omkar Natural Resources is gearing up to hire a seismic contractor for a Rs30cr ($4.8m) campaign to shoot 82-sq km 3D and 350-lkm 2D at its north Gujarat onland block CB-ONN-2005/5 - one of two 'S' blocks it holds in the state.

Omkar received bids on October 16 from Asian Oilfield Services, Alphageo and Shiv Vani. But an industry source says the tender's bidding parameters were not clear and need further clarification.

“It's not possible to determine major capital costs like the number of geophones required," he says. "The tender was also unclear on the channels (cables) to be used.

” Omkar wants to begin work from November and plans to end the survey by June next year. It won the NELP-VII block in 2009 with a Phase-I commitment to drill four wells.

Mumbai-based property developer Babulal Mulchand Varma is behind Omkar, set up in 2008.
