Talmiz Ahmad to join oil ministry from 1st April

Oil minister Mani Shankar Aiyars favourite Indian Foreign Service officer Talmiz Ahmad will officially join the oil ministry from 1st April.

This report learns that Ahmads appointment has been cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet and is now awaiting approval from Prime Minister Manmohan Singhs office. Clearance is expected any moment now, an oil ministry source tells us.

Ahmad is presently Additional Secretary in charge of administrative affairs at the Ministry of External Affairs. On his arrival in the oil ministry, he will hold the same rank but with special charge of overseas operations.

Ahmads primary role will be to oversee the ongoing and future overseas projects of state-owned oil companies. Ahmad is a specialist in Islamic affairs and has wide experience of the Arab world where he served in various roles for 20 years during his 30-year career span, which included a stint in London.
