Unhelpful ONGC bid deadline for BPA-BPB

Vol 16, PW 11 (13 Dec 12) News in Brief

Companies hoping to refurbish, replace or repair equipment at the BPA and BPB platforms at the Bassein field off Mumbai will spend Christmas Day preparing bids.

ONGC has postponed the bid deadline from December 10 to December 26 for this estimated $180m contract. “Fifteen companies bought tender documents,” confirms an ONGC contractor.

Among them are J. Ray McDermott, Das Offshore, Dolphin Offshore, L&T, AFCONS, NPCC Engineering (NEL), Great Offshore, SEW Infrastructure and HAL Offshore.

ONGC has also postponed from February 2 to sometime in March the date on which it plans to award the contract for the 11 unmanned platforms. “After the revamp there will be up to 20% increase in gas production at Bassein,” adds our source.

Bassein began producing in September 1988 and today produces around 27m cm/d of gas. ONGC wants six BPB platforms completed by May 15, 2014 and five BPA platforms ready by April 30, 2015.
