Five companies bid on June 1 for the Project Management Consultant (PMC) contract to oversee construction work at IndianOil’s proposed LNG terminal at Ennore in Tamil Nadu.

State-owned Engineers India, Foster Wheeler, Fluor Daniel, Tractebel and Gas Natural Fenosa will compete for the estimated Rs30cr ($6m) contract. IOC reckons it will be ready to select the winner by next month (July).

“We’ve only just received bids,” reports a company source. “It will take at least one month to evaluate technical and price bids and award the contract.

” On selection the consultant’s first task will be to prepare and issue high value EPC tenders to construct the 5m t/y terminal. Tractebel and Engineers India, adds an industry source, are front-runners to win.

Tractebel in particular has an edge as it prepared the first Ennore ‘quick scan’ study in 2004. Foster Wheeler, hired by IOC last October to carry out a FEED report, is expected to submit its study shortly.
