GAIL focus on securing CBM

Vol 15, PW 23 (31 May 12) News in Brief

When spot R-LNG prices are rocketing sky-high, companies like GAIL are learning they better explore alternative gas sources.

In early May GAIL carved out a new four-member team from its LNG sourcing and marketing group to focus exclusively on sourcing domestic gas, in particular CBM. Executive director Rajeev Mathur, who earlier handled LNG sourcing, heads the new domestic gas sourcing and gas marketing team.

He is assisted by general managers SD Dhiman and VN Dutt and deputy general manager S. Bairagi.

Together the team will work to sign contracts for long-term CBM supplies from fields managed by privately-owned operators like Reliance, Essar and Great Eastern Energy. Executive director Rajendra Tiwari will now look after LNG sourcing and marketing at GAIL.

Last year GAIL set up an additional LNG desk at Singapore under special purpose vehicle GAIL Global (Singapore) and staffed by GAIL officers Sanjay Kumar and Amit Singh.
