Candidates hoping to become the next ONGC director finance are preparing for interviews.

PETROWATCH learns the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has fixed February 21 as the interview date for the post, lying vacant since September when DK Sarraf moved to ONGC Videsh as managing director. “The frontrunners are ONGC’s chief of corporate finance AK Banerjee and ONGC Videsh director finance SP Garg,” says an industry source.

But he adds, Banerjee’s good relationship with ONGC chairman Sudhir Vasudeva might give him an edge. “Vasudeva brought Banerjee to Delhi from Mumbai,” we hear.

“He is comfortable dealing with him.” Banerjee also currently holds additional charge of the director finance portfolio and has been attending the company’s board meetings.

“Garg is senior to Banerjee but keeps a lower profile,” we learn. Other strong internal candidates include company secretary NK Sinha and AK Srinivasan, a general manager based in Mumbai.
