Agarwal at BGL

Vol 15, PW 9 (03 Nov 11) News in Brief

GAIL bosses have installed a new chief not just at IGL but also at Andhra Pradesh-based gas retailer Bhagyanagar Gas (BGL).

PETROWATCH learns NK Agarwal was officially appointed as managing director of GAIL and HPCL joint venture BGL late last month, but had yet to take charge by November 1. Agarwal replaces CA Rashid, BGL managing director for a little over two years, who has moved to GAIL’s corporate office in Delhi as executive director parliamentary affairs and liaison.

Previously, Agarwal supervised GAIL’s Agra operations and maintenance. Unless he gets moved out prematurely like Rashid, Agarwal can expect to remain in the BGL managing director post for three years.

Rashid’s tenure at BGL saw it winning the retail gas licence for Kakinada city in April 2009, beating Reliance in India’s first auction of such licenses. Agarwal has his work cut out shoring up BGL’s retail gas networks in state capital Hyderabad and Vijaywada city and setting up a new network at Kakinada.
