GSPC pipes gas to Bilimora

Vol 13, PW 16 (28 Jan 10) News in Brief

GSPC’s gas retail arm GSPC Gas is steadily gaining ground in Gujarat’s hinterland.

GSPC Gas’ latest addition is Bilimora, the 17th town connected to its network. Bilimora is 70-km south of Gujarat’s textile capital Surat and has no real industry, though it was once described as Gujarat’s Manchester.

PETROWATCH learns piped gas supplies to Bilimora began on January 11 with the lighting of a gas stove in the kitchen of state lawmaker Laxman Patel. “Patel lit the stove in the presence of GSPC Gas officials and local municipal officers,â€‌ says a GSPC Gas source.

He adds that GSPC Gas plans to provide 10,000 gas connections in Bilimora overall, and 7000 in the first phase of connections. GSPC Gas has so far finished pipeline plumbing work in over 5000 houses.

We learn that five villages near Bilimora will also be connected by 2010: Talodh, Devsar, Vaghrech, Antalia and Nandarkha. But first a gas pumping station needs to be completed at Nandarkha.
