Naresh Kumar, 55, managing director of Jindal Drilling is the first Indian to be nominated to the 11-member executive committee of the Houston-based International Association of Drilling Contractors.

Jindal is also the first Indian drilling company to be honoured with a seat on the IADC’s ruling committee. Kumar’s three-year term started on January 1.

“Service on the executive committee involves exercising oversight on the IADC budget, its operations and business activities and positions on global regulatory issues,â€‌ says Jindal. Diamond Offshore, Premium Drilling, Hercules Offshore and Northern Offshore are among other prominent drillers on the executive committee of the IADC, whose current chairman is Claus Hemmingsen, chief executive of Denmark’s Maersk Drilling.

Jindal owns jack-ups Virtue I and Discovery I and operates three others: Noble Ed Holt, Noble Charlie Yester and Noble George McLeod. All these rigs work for ONGC.
