Three wells at BG-ONGC block in KG

ONGC and British Gas will drill the first set of three wells of a six-well Phase-I work programme in May or June next year at shallow water block KG-OSN-2004/1 in the Krishna Godavari Basin.

PETROWATCH learns ONGC and BG believe a “jack-up will sufficeâ€‌ because these wells will be drilled in water depths of 45 to 50 metres even though water depths on the block range between five metres to 400 metres. “Later on we’ll need a floater because the other three wells are in deeper waters,â€‌ we hear.

ONGC has not yet tendered for a rig, “but getting a jack-up won’t be difficult for a regular customer like ONGC.â€‌ In May this year, WesternGeco completed a 1000-sq-km 3D survey of the block, which is being processed.

Measuring 1151-sq km, KG-OSN-2004/1 is the relinquished northern part of KG-DWN-98/2 and was one of the most fiercely contested of NELP-VI, attracting seven bids. Under the PSC signed on March 2, 2007, ONGC is operator with 55% while BG has 45%.
