BG extends PMT jack-up deadline

Vol 11, PW 24 (17 Apr 08) News in Brief

British Gas has extended the bid deadline for two jack-up rigs needed for an ambitious 21-well redevelopment programme to halt and reverse declining oil and gas production at the Panna, Mukta and Tapti fields.

Last week BG told drilling contractors that the new bid deadline would be April 28. “BG can expect more bids by extending the deadline,â€‌ we hear.

“It will also increase competition among bidders.â€‌ Others are unconvinced about BG’s reason for extending the tender.

“BG has not received an encouraging response to its tender,â€‌ claims an industry source. “They are saying this to convince their joint venture partners (Reliance and ONGC) about the extension.

â€‌ On March 20, BG wrote to 16 drilling contractors seeking bids to hire two jack-up rigs to replace Ensco 50 and Ensco 53, which are presently on location, but whose contracts come to an end in September this year. Together the PMT fields contribute 40,000 b/d oil and 17.3m cm/d gas to national production.
