It seems VK Sharma will after all be the next director operations at ONGC.

Two independent sources tell us that Sharma's file is sitting with the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet for final approval. Industry rumour has it that intense lobbying by a foreign-owned contractor in India played a major role in advancing Sharma's name over that ofIndu Bhushan Raina, who in June this year was selected for the job by the Public Enterprises Selection Board.

Everyone is now watching to see if the cabinet appointments committee will overturn Raina's recommendation by the PESB.
