Karnataka extends Bidadi deadline to 24th March

Vol 7, PW 26 (24 Mar 04) News in Brief

Karnataka Power Corporation has postponed to 24th March the deadline for submission of techno-commercial bids for LNG or natural gas to fire the expansion of its Bidadi power station.

The last deadline was 19th March. We received separate requests from three bidders asking for five days extension to the deadline, a source tells PETROWATCH.

No reasons were given. We could understand if they had asked for a months postponement but only five days is mystifying.

One assumption is that the postponement is related to bidders preoccupation with the ongoing NTPC tender. Four bidders are competing for the Bidadi contract: Reliance (natural gas); GAIL (LNG); an alliance of Petronet-LNG, ONGC and Bharat Petroleum (LNG); and an alliance of Indian Oil and Petronas (LNG).

Karnataka will ask for price bids a month after the techno-commercial bids are received and wants 1.5m t/y natural gas or LNG over 17 years.
