ONGC plans 29 wells in Mehsana district

Vol 19, PW 23 (28 Jul 16) News in Brief

ONGC is planning 29 exploration wells targeting "deeper prospects" across 10 areas in the Mehsana district of Gujarat.

On July 22 the Western Onshore Basin invited bids from consultants to carry out public hearings and an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) study with an August 12 bid deadline. Eight wells will be at Jotana Ext-1 mining lease, four at Geratpur, three each at Lanwa, Balol, Santhal and Bechraji, two in Mehsana City, and one each at Lanwa Ext-1, Dedna and Chanasma.

All will be drilled to 3000 metres TD, according to an ONGC pre-feasibility. "Each well will be logged and open hole drill stem tested," it says.

"If potential oil and or gas reserves are observed then the well shall be cased with production casing. Depending on the success of exploratory drilling ONGC may drill additional exploratory wells and develop a plan for commercial production." ONGC adds: "No workers camp will be required during drilling.

About 30 to 40 persons may be working in 8 hour shifts on site. Workers can return home at night and hence no camping will be required at or near the well site."
