L&T favourite for Ravva wellhead contract

Larsen & Toubro is confident of clinching a $61m contract from operator Cairn India for the construction of a new wellhead platform at Ravva, beating rival bidders Swiber and TL Offshore.

Cairn is yet to formally award the Contingent Resource Development (CRD) contract to L&T, pending JV approval from partner ONGC and the oil ministry. But that hasn’t stopped Cairn holding a series of informal meetings with L&T, encouraged by its attractive $61m quote (whether offered informally or in its price bid is still unclear) for the construction of a six-slot wellhead platform and 12-km pipeline.

The first meeting was in April when Cairn invited L&T to an ‘engineering kick-off’ meeting; the next was in May when Cairn evaluated L&T’s procurement and engineering related processes, all signs L&T will win the contract. Other bidders Swiber and TL Offshore are in the dark, unsure if price bids, submitted on January 20, have been opened.
