ETA for Bantumilli

Vol 15, PW 6 (22 Sep 11) News in Brief

Mumbai-based HDPCL is poised to begin a two-well drilling campaign at the KG onshore Bantumilli marginal field, which it operates on behalf of ONGC.

By end-September, we hear, HDPCL expects to mobilise the 2600-hp onland WAFA Star-1 rig operated by Dubai-based ETA Star from a yard at Thirutharaipoondi in Tamil Nadu where it is parked since completion of a four-well campaign for Niko Resources. Each of the two wells at the 64-sq km Bantumilli field will target High-Pressure/High-Temperature zones to TD of around 3600 metres.

Located 120-km from Rajahmundry, Bantumilli is currently closed-in but earlier ONGC logs “show high GOR” (Gas to Oil Ratio) and HDPCL believes the field could start producing up to 1200 b/d on completion of its seven-well work programme and the start of “full development”. HDPCL signed a ‘firm’ two-well and ‘optional’ five-well contract with ETA in April this year.

ETA’s second onland rig WAFA Star 6 will shortly leave Tripura for a nearby SEZ.
