Alphageo wins 3D contract for Bakrol and Indrora

Indian seismic contractor Alphageo has won a contract to shoot 3D at the Bakrol and Indrora onland Gujarat fields operated by BSE-listed Selan Exploration.

PETROWATCH learns Selan issued a Letter of Intent (LoI) last month asking Hyderabad-based Alphageo to shoot a blanket 36-sq km survey at Bakrol and 90-sq km at the 130-sq km Indrora field. Alphageo needs to mobilise equipment and crew by the end of this month.

“If all the permits are in place we can start shooting right away,â€‌ says a source. “But until all the paperwork is completed we can’t mobilise.

â€‌ Alphageo has just completed shooting 3D at the Baola and Modhera fields, also in Gujarat, for Interlink Petroleum, and will move some of the crew to Bakrol and Indrora. Another service provider, yet to be selected, will process and interpret the data.

“We expect to issue a LoI for that within a week or so,â€‌ confirms Selan. Acquisition, processing and interpretation of the 3D at Bakrol and Indrora is likely to take one year, after which locations will be released for fresh drilling.

Bakrol was discovered in 1966 and Indrora in 1971, both by original operator ONGC. Selan produces approximately 600 b/d from Bakrol, Indrora, and a third field, Lohar.

This is a 100% increase over last year. Bakrol is the largest producer, with well Bakrol 15 initially producing 780 b/d.

But over the past six months production has dropped to 330 b/d. Another well, Bakrol 14, yields 42 b/d from the Kalol-VIII reservoir while producing wells Bakrol 2 and Bakrol 5 each produce between 30 b/d and 36 b/d from the Kalol-VIII and Kalol-IX reservoirs.

At Indrora, all five original ONGC wells are â€کdamaged’ and yield barely 12 b/d in total.
