Great Eastern moves fast at Raniganj South

Vol 10, PW 8 (10 Aug 06) News in Brief

Fast track CBM development work is underway at Great Easterns Raniganj South block in West Bengal.

PETROWATCH learns Great Eastern plans to drill 100 development wells over the next four years. Right now we are drilling our eighteenth development well out of the 20 planned in this campaign, the company tells us.

If you include the exploration wells, it is our 21st well on this block. One well has already started producing 18-20 cubic metres per hour.

We are flaring the gas. Great Eastern expects to start its next phase of development drilling in November this year.

We want to drill another 20 wells with a new rig from Mitchell Drilling. If monsoon conditions delay the next phase of drilling, it will be put back to January next year.

Great Eastern began work at Raniganj South after it signed a PSC on 31st May 2001. In December last year, the company listed on the Alternative Investment Market (AIM) stock exchange in London.
