R Prasad, former chairman of the Gas Authority of India, is to be the next chairman of British Gas India. A source in Mumbai with close links to British Gas tells Petrowatch that Prasad - who retired from GAIL on 31st January - will be the next chairman of British Gas India, and that he is scheduled to begin his new job at BG's Gurgaon head office on May 1st.

It is understood Prasad will work alongside Ross Stobie, present chief executive of British Gas India, who also sits in Gurgaon. Will the two roles conflict Not according to our source.

"Stobie and Prasad will work in parallel," we learn. "They'll both report to David McManus in the UK." McManus is an executive vice-president for the Asia Pacific region.

"British Gas is lucky to have Prasad on board," he reveals. "He is a gas man throughout and has vast years of experience in the business.

He'll bring much added value to the company's India team." Prasad is the latest in a string of new appointments at British Gas and its Indian subsidiary, Gujarat Gas. On Monday 23rd April, Ujjwal Dey, formally with Enron's MetGas, and before that with Reliance and GAIL, took up the post of director commercial at Gujarat Gas in Ahmedabad.

Before him Pravin Tandon assumed the role of new director commercial at British Gas in Gurgaon.
