BSES extends 1,000-MW Maithon EPC bid by one week

Mumbai-based power utility BSES (45%) and Damodar Valley Corporation (45%) have extended to 31st January the date for opening EPC bids for the 1,000-MW coal-fired Rs4, 000cr ($880m) Maithon power station in Jharkand.

Mitsui, Sumitomo, Marubeni, Bharat Heavy Electricals, Alsthom, Korea Heavy Industries and Construction and Shanghai Electric Corporation are shortlisted. "Some of them sought the extension because they were shut during New Year." Another key issue is lack of agreement between BSES and DVC on a tariff.

"It makes no sense to go ahead unless we have a tariff that is affordable to the consumer."
