Workers at Schlumberger's Indian operations have called off their month-long strike and returned to work on 21st February.

The strike, led by the Hindu militant Shiv Sena party began on 21st January, demanding the company re-instate five workers suspended from service in July 2000. "The company was adamant and refused to take our colleagues back.

Instead they terminated their services. So we decided to return to work and file cases against the company.

There was no point in us remaining outside in such a situation." Nearly 100 Schlumberger workers on rigs and base offices went on strike. "We have not got what we asked for but we will fight a legal battle."
