Reliance makes two more discoveries in KG-DWN-98/3

Vol 8, PW 1 (07 Apr 04) News in Brief

Another reason for Kakinada promoters to move south: Reliance has struck gas in two more wells drilled in KG-DWN-98/3.

The ninth and tenth exploratory wells on this block were drilled east of the eight successful wells drilled earlier. On 31st March, Reliances 10% partner on this block Niko Resources told the Toronto Stock Exchange that the K-1 exploration well was drilled in 1,031 metres water depth to a total depth of 2,531 metres.

The K-2 well was drilled in 992 metres water depth to 2,220 metres. K-2 tested gas at equipment constrained rates of approximately 30m cubic feet per day, said Niko, adding that the K-1 and K-2 gasfields were of similar size.

Importantly, all drilling has to date occurred in the first 1,800-sq metre 3D seismic programme that covers less than 10% of the block area. Another 2,500-sq km 3D seismic is being shot over the block.
