ONGC director onshore interviews in December

Several ONGC general managers are sulking because their names have not been forwarded to the oil ministry as part of the selection process for the next company director onshore.

On October 1 ONGC’s HR department only forwarded the names of executive director and group general manager level candidates to the ministry which will forward the list to the PESB. “We have yet to shortlist candidates for interview,” says a PESB source.

“It is most likely the interviews will be held in December.” Current director onshore Ashok Varma, who took charge on June 6, 2014, retires on July 31, 2015.

Many believe candidates with a production background stand a good chance of winning, for example executive director Yash Malik, who heads the Ahmedabad asset; group general manager SK Moitra, who heads the Bassein and satellite asset; and group general manager Utpal Bora, who heads the Mehsana asset. But don’t discount people with a drilling background like executive director VP Mahawar who heads the Tripura asset.

"Drillers and people from the exploration (G&G) discipline may also apply," explains an industry source. Other executive directors in the race include RK Gupta, chief of construction at ONGC Petro Additions; Kulbir Singh, Cambay sub-asset manager; Subodh Kumar, chief technical services; Vikas Tayal, Mumbai offshore maintenance head; Sidhartha Sur, corporate planning head; and PK Rao, officer on special duty at OVL.
