HOEC appraisal well

Vol 15, PW 14 (26 Jan 12) News in Brief

Eni-affiliate Hindustan Oil Exploration Company (HOEC) is hoping for a hat-trick at its 435-sq km pre-NELP gas discovery onshore block AAP-ON-94/1 in the Assam-Arakan basin.

PETROWATCH learns Guwahati-based drilling contractor JayBee Energy is expected to mobilise a 2000-hp rig by mid-February to the block to begin drilling proposed appraisal well Dirok-4. JayBee is likely to drill the well to around 2600 metres TD, targeting the ‘Dirok geological formation,’ which could take up to 60 days to complete.

Canada-headquartered Techno Canada, we hear, will test the well. BSE-listed HOEC has been lucky at this block twice so far.

Last January, it successfully drilled well Dirok-2, which ‘flowed’ 170,000 cm/d of gas and 140 b/d ‘condensate’ during a Drill Stem Test (DST). In January 2008, HOEC announced a gas discovery at well Dirok-1, which flowed 165,000 cm/d and 75 b/d condensate.

HOEC operates AAP-ON-94/1 with a 26.882%; IOC holds 29.032%; and, Oil India holds 44.086%.
