Vol 3, PW 6 (14 Apr 99) News in Brief

Anwar Saifullah Khan, a former Pakistani oil minister, has laid open the possibility of exporting 500m cubic feet a day of gas to neighbouring India.

Khan said private and state companies operating in Pakistan have added 6 trillion cubic feet of gas reserves over the last two years, greatly enhancing the scope of exports. He said the gas could be exported from two of three major discoveries made in the last year.

He added that India is in a position to pay market rates for Pakistani gas and called for the construction of a gas pipeline linking the two countries.
