First 98/2 gas will flow through S1-Vashishta

ONGC believes the fastest way to begin gas production from the Cluster 2 fields at KG-DWN-98/2 is to link them to the eastern offshore deepwater S1 and Vashishta field development - not the Deen Dayal West development as originally thought.

Determined to meet the ministry's June 2019 target for first 98/2 gas, ONGC believes a link to the upcoming S1 and Vashishta platform is the best of three options studied by WorleyParsons subsidiary INTECSEA in a draft report submitted June 9. The other two options were either a link to GSPC's under-utilised shallow water Deen Dayal West platform or flowing the 98/2 wells independently through a proposed control and process platform.

ONGC argues that two wells each at the U1 and U3 fields at 98/2 are closer to S1 and Vashishta than Deen Dayal West. "This option works out cheaper and quicker," confirms a source.

Another source says the draft INTECSEA report was discussed in detail on June 14 during a closed door 'risk analysis' meeting in Hyderabad held by Boston Consulting Group, ONGC's consultant. Among those present were teams from ONGC's Mumbai-based offshore engineering services division and Institute of Oil and Gas Production Technology, Ahmedabad-based Institute of Reservoir Studies, S1-Vashishta team, 98/2 team and the eastern offshore asset surface team.

ONGC has yet to formally tell INTECSEA about its decision. "Approvals have yet to come through from ONGC top management," we hear.
