ONGC plans 3 wells at CB-ONN-2009/4

Vol 19, PW 11 (11 Feb 16) News in Brief

ONGC plans to begin drilling three wells at its onland CB-ONN-2009/4 block in Gujarat next month (March).

It is chasing the environment ministry to clear three locations at the 58-sq km NELP-VIII block. “We were aiming to begin drilling this month (February) but haven't got the environmental clearance for the revised well locations,” says an ONGC source.

"After we get the clearance, it will take 15-20 days to begin drilling.” ONGC has set aside Rs80cr ($12m) to drill these three wells using one of its own rigs.

Confirmed location names are: CRAG, CRAH and CRAI. On December 18, ONGC wrote to the environment ministry confirming changes to the well locations after interpreting seismic data and also because it failed to secure land for earlier locations.

Over 2014 and 2015, ONGC (50% and operator) drilled wells CRAE and CRAF at the block where it partners GSPC (50%) and has committed 10 wells.
