Seismic tender from ONGC

Vol 13, PW 23 (06 May 10) News in Brief

ONGC is expected to issue a tender to hire two seismic vessels in the next four to six weeks.

ONGC’s executive purchase committee, we hear, approved the tender, last month (April). Industry sources tell us ONGC plans to hire two vessels for one full season, lasting around seven months.

“The value of the tender will be around $130m,” we hear. “The vessels will be deployed on the east coast at ONGC’s NELP blocks.

” Sources also add ONGC can expect good offers, as many seismic boats are lying idle. ONGC is also planning to issue two separate tenders to acquire 2D and 3D, but precise information on when it will issue a tender for this is scanty.

“The tenders are yet to be approved by the EPC,” we hear. “Only when it meets will we know how much seismic ONGC wants to shoot.

” Six vessels are currently shooting seismic for ONGC, among them Geowave Champion and Geowave Commander owned by CGGVeritas, each on hire at close to $270,800/day.
