Mansingh on LNG fact-finding tour

Vol 12, PW 5 (24 Jul 08) News in Brief

Gas regulator Labanyendu Mansingh clearly wants to find out more about LNG terminals.

PETROWATCH learns Mansingh left Delhi on (Monday) July 21 for a two-day fact-finding tour of the two LNG terminals in Gujarat. His first stop was Petronet-LNG’s terminal at Dahej.

“Mansingh visited Dahej on July 22,â€‌ confirms a source. “He was there for three hours.

â€‌ Petronet-LNG director technical CS Mani was on duty to enlighten Mansingh during the terminal visit. Mansingh’s next stop was the Shell-operated Hazira LNG terminal.

“I don’t know any details of the visit,â€‌ says a well-informed Shell spokesperson. “He must be just walking around there.

â€‌ This report learns Shell’s influential chief executive Nitin Shukla was Mansingh’s official â€کtour’ guide during the Hazira visit. Board member and former GAIL technical director and renowned LNG terminal expert BS Negi accompanied Mansingh on his trip.

It’s unclear who requested the visit or why: Mansingh or the terminal operators
