Fifteen apply for CMD post at NTPC

By August 22nd, some 15 candidates had applied for the post of CMD at NTPC, India’s largest power generation company.

“More applications are likely to come in,â€‌ says a well-placed source. “If anyone else from NTPC applies the PESB (Public Enterprises Selection Board) will have to accept their application even if it comes one day before the interview.

â€‌ So far four candidates from NTPC have applied, among them hot favourite Chandan Roy, director operations. Outside candidates include Rajib Ranjan, chairman of Chattisgarh State Electricity Board and one candidate each from the railway and textiles ministries.

“No date has been fixed for the interviews,â€‌ we hear. “The PESB schedule is booked for the whole of September.

Interviews are likely to be held in October.â€‌ NTPC’s present chairman Thyagrajan Sankarlingam retires on May 1st next year.

Sankarlingam took over as CMD from CP Jain on April 1st 2006. Jain is today advising Anil Ambani controlled Reliance Energy.
