GAS BLOW OUT ON BOMBAY OFFSHORE

Vol 3, PW 4 (17 Mar 99) News in Brief

ONGC is playing down the loss of gas caused by a well blowout at the B-121-D gas well on the Bombay Offshore.

AS Soni, Director Operations, ONGC, said the five gas wells which were closed following the fire on 12 March account for 3% of 55m cubic metres of gas produced in the western offshore fields. The B-121-D gas well is connected to the B-121 platform located about 140 km offshore, north west of Mumbai.

The blowout happened during repair work to control excess pressure and to rectify malfunctioning sub-surface valves. Houston-based firefighter, Cudd Pressure, has been called in to deal with the blaze.
