Diesel for power generation

Vol 3, PW 20 (27 Oct 99) News in Brief

Indias Ministry of Power is set to allow the use of High Speed Diesel (HSD) as feedstock for power generation.

MS Ramachandran, Executive Director, Oil Coordination Committee, attached to the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, told a round table discussion at the PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry in Delhi on Sunday (17th October) that a decision has been made by the OCC to allow use of HSD in the power sector. Ramachandran said the decision was made on the grounds that there is ample supply of diesel in the country, following recent refinery capacity addition.

He added that the decision would come into effect when the Ministry of Power issues "the relevant notification". Until now diesel is used for power generation in exceptional cases.
