Shell has informed the Gujarat Maritime Board that it plans to construct an LNG terminal of 6.5m tonnes a year (t/y) in the 'First Phase'.

Shell's Detailed Project Report (DPR), submitted last month, and leaked to the press, said an additional 5.8m t/y would constitute solid cargo. Surprisingly, Shell has submitted the project report in the name of 'Shell-Essar', the financially fragile Mumbai-based corporate house that was its original partner.

On a visit to Gujarat last week, Linda Cook, head of Shell International Gas, reportedly told Gujarat officials thatselection of an EPC contractor for Hazira would be completed this month, with construction beginning next January..
