France and India step up energy ties in Paris meeting

Electricite de France will bid for opportunities in an upcoming privatisation programme of electricity services in Delhi and Chandigarh, according to a note on the '2nd Indo-French Working Group on Energy' which met in Paris on 1st February.

Chaired by Indian power secretary Ashok Basu and France's Dominique Maillard, it also said TotalFinaElf "would consider" bidding for exploration acreage in the upcoming licensing round. By April this year, said the minutes, India and France should sign a MoU "for geological and hydrological survey and investigation of river basin hydropower projects in India." France also expressed interest in "setting up an atmospheric fluidised bed combustion clean coal pilot project in India."
