Its not surprising that the world's drilling contractors are drooling with interest in India - not just for ONGC work but also for work from Reliance.

We learn Reliance plans to embark on a massive 31-well exploration programme in the oil and gas blocks awarded to it under NELP, and earlier blocks awarded on a nomination basis. Petrowatch brings you an exclusive insiders view of the leads identified by the company.

On June 6th Reliance met 10 drilling contractors who had or are likely to respond to its tenders for one floater and a jack-up rig. The pre-qualification meeting was held at Reliance Petroleum House in Mumbais Ballard Estate business district.

Present were people from Hitech Drilling, Marine Drilling, Diamond Drilling, Jindal Exploration, Neptune Explorer, Great Eastern Shipping Company, Transocean Sedco Forex, Pride MD, Unitrade Drilling and Frontier Drilling. Reliance plans to drill four or five wells by December this year and about 10 wells by monsoon next year.

Tenders must be returned by the end of June.
