British Gas steps up PR drive in Mumbai

Vol 6, PW 13 (28 Aug 02) News in Brief

For the second time this month British Gas India boss Nigel Shaw travelled to Mumbai to meet local reporters covering the oil and gas sector.

On 6th August, Shaw met reporters from the Financial Express, Business Standard, Business Line and The Economic Times to repeat BG's India investment plans for the next two or three years. Later in the month BG's Delhi-based public relations agency telephoned select Mumbai journalists to know if they would be keen to meet Shaw on 26th August.

Neither ONGC, Reliance nor the oil ministry is impressed by BG's sudden fondness for Mumbai reporters. "They are trying to throw red herrings all over the place," said one.

Interesting to note is that ONGC, Reliance and BG have not spoken to each other since late June about the operatorship issue at Panna-Mukta-Tapti. The oil ministry has set a 30th September deadline for both sides to resolve the row.
